Estate Sale Stories

As I said in my last post I had great luck this Saturday at 4 estate sales!  These were the first I had been to since before winter!  Needless to say I was happy to be out on the hunt again. There was an estate sale listed in the paper and the address was in a local shopping complex.  I have seen this before, where instead of having it in the house they move everything into a store front for the day to sell it.  Also, I have seen some crazy things in the paper where it really isn't an estate sale at all, crazy people list things in the paper to try and get traffic for their junk shops!  I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, so I put it half way down my list. I had a few other sales that I thought were going to be better.  I popped in and saw that it was a true estate sale and that the prices were high!!  I of course looked around to see if I could find any deals...no luck until I get to the very back of the store.  I see 5 or 6 huge boxes(30-40ish total) of half gallon and quart BLUE BALL JARS!  There is a price sign on each box with a price for the half gallon, quart, and lids.  I had to do a double take because these prices were so low compared to the ridiculously over priced items that fill the rest of the store.  I got out my phone...started counted and add the price for all the jars.  I got the lady down $9 off the ridiculously low price already marked.  If I used or even understood hash tags or most social media...I feel like I would say #winning! ;-)

This was probably my biggest and best score of the day, but I found so much great stuff.  Vintage clothing, kitchenware, vintage sheets, pillows, and much more!  By the end of the day I was having to shove items into nooks and holes to fit it all into my tiny Nissan Altima.  Oh one day soon I will have a bigger car!

Update: New Adventures

Just wanted to give a little update on my new business adventures I have been working on!  I have been working hard for the past few months on my new ideas and I feel like my hard work is finally paying off this week!!

I sold my first order of ball jar candles on ETSY!  10 navy and 10 coral candles to a lady for her wedding.  So excited that MY CANDLES are going to be used at someones wedding!

I also made my first two sales of painted and distressed ball mason jars this week!  Both sold to ladies named Beth and one of them is shipping to Greenville, SC, where I live.  I find both of those things slightly strange. :-)

I have also been working on adding as many cute color combinations to MY NEW SHOP as I can think of! (more coming soon!  I am very excited to be working on a RAINBOW SET and NEON COLORS!) I like this navy, coral, and cream combo best of all!  As you can tell my coral paint came in this week and I picked it up from this small local hardware store.  I could definitely tell that they don't get a lot of customers who are young and picking up one can of coral spray paint.  I could also tell that the people running the shop thought I was out of place! Everyone else in the shop was buying some type of tool or farming material in bulk.  I grew up in the country though and went to small hardware stores like that all the time with my grandfather(everyone there always knew him by name) I felt right at home. ;-)  Maybe if I order enough paint from them they will get to know me.

Lastly.  I am also pleased that I have sold around 15-20 things in my first week of having my booth at THE DOWNTOWN MARKET ASHEVILLE, NC!  I had no idea what to expect from this booth, but it has exceeded my expectations!! I will have to start making weekly trips up the mountain I believe!  Tomorrow will be my second trip!

Well back to paintin' jars and makin' candles! Have a lovely Sunday!

Ps.  Had amazing luck yesterday at some estate sales!  Pics and stories to come! 'Estate saling' is always an adventure.

New Ideas. Painted and Distress Mason Jars

I have been busy working on some new items for my new ETSY SHOP!  I love the look of the painted and distress mason jars.  They are perfect for every occasion.  I have been trying out tons of colors.   Unfortunately, most stores that sell the paint I use do not sell CORAL!  I am all about the color coral right now.  It is slowly becoming my favorite color.  Anyway...I was researching online trying to find coral paint.  I only found a few websites that sell it and they were double sometimes even triple the price of the other colors that I can buy in the store locally.  I finally found a website that had a coral color and it could even be shipped and picked up at a local hardware store!  Moral to the story...CORAL JARS COMING SOON!  These jars are a taste of some of the colors I will be offering.

I have also been testing out some new scents and colors for my Ball Mason Jar CANDLES.  I have gained a new appreciation for handmade ETSY sellers over the past few months!  Its not joke, it takes a lot of time to hand make and craft items!  I have been perfecting these candles for months now, and I still have many scents and colors to test!  Maybe I am just too much of a perfectionist...

NEW SCENTS COMING SOON TO BALL JAR CANDLES:

EUCALYPTUS AND THYME
VANILLA BEAN
CRANBERRY SALSA
BLISSFUL BLUEBERRY
PUMPKIN PIE SPICE
LILAC

I have tons more scents to test...just not enough time in the day.  I also have exciting news...I am starting up an antique booth at THE DOWNTOWN MARKET in Asheville, NC!!  I will be setting it up on Sunnday...pictures coming soon!!
